Winter Colds

Winter Colds ~ Favorite Remedies The weather took a turn, and we got a serious left hook around here with a nasty cold. 4yo had it for a couple days, but 2yo was down for a whole week. I, of course, get to have it now… What’s your favorite way to battle winter bugs? We use natural remedies where we can, but with the littles I tend to use whatever I can find OTC to give them relief at night so we can all get some sleep. Have you managed to stay healthy this winter? Ride the Train! INTERNET GOES ON STRIKE!

INTERNET GOES ON STRIKE!

It will be as if The Survival Mama was wiped off the internet. In it’s place will be a page directing you to learn more about 2 very dangerous bills in front of Congress right now that will change the internet forever if passed. SOPA and PIPA. And the truth is? If these bills pass, it’s very possible that one day you could come to The Survival Mama and see a blank screen. It would be THAT easy for this site (or ANY site) to get SHUT DOWN.  Sites you visit every day, including: Etsy, YouTube, Tumblr, Pinterest, Facebook, and Yahoo! could be shut down if this bill passes.  On January 18th from 8am EST-8pm EST, The Survival Mama will be joining sits like (Includes Wikipedia, Reddit, Google, WordPress and HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS more) and going on STRIKE! Want to join in? Write Congress and tell them how you feel! Want to learn more? Watch this video: PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo. Will Write for Food.

Will Write for Food.

Why Do I Write?   Some of you may remember the writing workshop I attended last July with Dave Farland.  While I was there, several of the writers (and Dave) had great things to say about Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch.  I’ve been trying to remember to check out their blogs on a daily basis…and this post from Kris’s blog blew my socks off. She talks about what writer’s are willing to sell their craft for these days (peanuts) and I started thinking about whether I write for acclaim, or if I write for food.  After a moment of illumination, I decided going forward that I WILL write for food. Enter Powerpoint (again) Why do you do what you do? Ride the Train! Manifesto

Manifesto

You had me at Hello…   I’ve always wanted to write a manifesto…pretty much since watching Jerry Maguire, but I’ve never done it. Today, my calendar flashed up with a reminder that said “WRITE MANIFESTO, STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND GO WRITE THE GD THING!” So I did… What’s on your 2012 Manifesto? Ride the Train! Time Travel ~ Happy New Year ~ from 2012

Dear Future Me… I saw a tweet today about reading a letter sent from the past…so of course I had to go investigate. Have you heard of this futureme.org? A super simple site where you can write a letter to your future self…kind of like fat me does to skinny me on Biggest Loser? (which I love and makes me cry) I just wrote future me a letter, and I’m hoping past me is nicer about my failures than present me…because present me is pretty hard on…well, me. Check it out. Happy New YEAR! Ride the Train!
