Turning Trash Into Energy?

I’m used to the usual suspects for alternative energy: Solar, Wind, Nuclear, and I’m fascinated by farmers who power their entire farms using the methane by-product from their cows, but this was a new one for me.

I saw an article go whizzing by on Twitter a month ago about a businessman who wants to build a couple of thermal gasification energy plants in Idaho. Basically, giant trash-burners.

He has a new system that uses energy-efficient processes, and I have to admit – landfills have always seemed a bit bizarre to me. Eventually the city grows up and someone has to live on everyone’s trash.

Since Nuclear is clearly out why not build a couple of beneficial plants?
