Aquaponics – Workshops (Part 5)

What do you think? Are you interested in bringing an aquaponic system to your house? I’m going to talk my brother into putting a scaled version into his house to see the difference – and challenges.

Interested in learning more? You can head to Milwaukee and learn how to build your own system at a Growing Power’s workshop.

Participants can take one of the following breakout sessions: Compost & Vermicompost, Aquaponics, and Year-round Greenhouse Production.

Upcoming Workshop Dates:

April 8-10th, 2011

May 13-15th , 2011

I also found a non-profit here in Salt Lake and have contacted them to find out what they offer : Americana
They’ll come out and build your entire system for the cost of the materials, and show you how to get it all working. Very cool – - also on the spendy side, but the cost would be recovered within the first couple years, especially if you kept it running year round.

Aquaponics – Weeklong Segment (Part 3)

If you’ve been hanging out with me all week, you know I just found out about the most amazing gardening technique EVER!

Aquaponics (do you hear harps when you read that? I do.)

Stay tuned for more aquaponics this week….

Types of Soil and Compost – podcast

Can you tell I’m dying for Spring?
I can’t get off this garden topic….
My soil is rocks mixed with rocks, and a little dirt thrown in. Superb for when the earthquake hits, but kind of a bummer to garden in. Lucky for me, the house came with raised beds amended with compost and soil. Now that we’ve been here for 5 years, the soil is VERY depleted, even though I half-ass amend it every year. This year I need to do a major overhaul, and I found this great podcast about the differences in soil type and how to make compost. (it’s a little dry for the first 6ish minutes)
What kind of dirt do you have in your yard?
