Tuesday Train & MOOOORE Greenhouse

Greenhouse Update #2 Okay, sorry, for the title silliness, I’m just really really really excited about how this greenhouse is coming together. ….maybe because I didn’t have to do any of the work this weekend?? Here’s what happened. Very large competent men arrived. Pounded rebar into cinder block spaces. Mixed concrete and poured it in the cinder block. Set anchor bolts. Waited 3 days. Installed foam installation. Set sill plate. Put up walls with header boards for windows. Installed ceiling joists. And this is where “we” finished…. Next step….frame side walls, install doors and windows. Greenhouse Update & The Tuesday Train

Greenhouse Update & The Tuesday Train

Greenhouse Update Even though it’s currently trying to snow, it was a stunning Spring weekend, so we got the foundation started for the greenhouse.  I have a new appreciation for masons! Here’s what we did this weekend. Moved the big plant that was in the way. (I’d like to tell you I transplanted it, but it was just too big…. Cleared away all the bark and debris. Measured and marked the area for the greenhouse with stakes and string. Identified the lowest part and ran a level across the area so we knew how far down to set the other bricks. Started digging. Leveled each brick as we set it (which would have been much easier if we’d have dug a deeper trench and set sand in the bottom of the trench). Installed a future water line from the drip system under the bricks. Next step….pound rebar, pour cement, set anchor bolts. Ride the Train!  (and hop on the new Twitter train below) New hostess coming on board! Meet Shellie Sakai of Grape Expectations: Life, Love and Mayhem in the Napa Valley. Not only is Shellie a fabulous blogger/writer friend of mine, but she just published her new book: THE CASTLE OF NO RETURN: Billy Bob’s Dilemma. Harvesting Corn

Waiting, waiting, waiting…. This is the first year I’ve planted corn early enough to have stalks “knee high by the 4th of July,” so this is also the first year I’ve actually had any corn to harvest. Every day I wander past the bed and squeeze the ears, wondering when the heck I can eat them. It seems like August is the hardest time for gardening. The pumpkins are turning orange, the peas aren’t producing, the zucchini is replenishing, the corn is growing…. Apparently I have to wait until the ears are round, not pointy, and the silk is dried up to harvest my corn….so it’s going to be a bit yet. What are you waiting on in your garden? Jen Share...

Tuesday Train ~ July 5

Let Freedom Ring! Hope you had a fantastic holiday weekend. I hosted my mom’s side of the family, and at one point we had 14 people here. It was a great weekend – lots of fireworks – great food – minimal injuries. For the first year every, my corn is “knee high by the 4th of July and the weather is cooperating nicely. Some peas showed up and I have itty bitty zucchinis. Everything else is flowering nicely and I’ll be adding fresh strawberries and raspberries to my protein shakes by the end of the week. How did you celebrate the holiday? Are there any fun things coming up in your garden?
