ROW80 ~ One Month Down

Full Steam Ahead!

Whew, 30 days completed of my Round of Words in 80 days challenge.

To recap – this is how I wanted my 120k words to shake out by the end of the challenge:

  1. CHARGED – complete. At least on version of edits complete.
  2. Book 2 – outlined, first draft complete.
  3. HACKER (short story) – complete.

Last week frigging rocked. I met my writing goal every day, and made up a bit for the weeks prior. The new stuff seamlessly lined up with the old – - and added a stunning new conflict.

This week I slayed the dragon of Resistance!

Oh, I also started using Scrivener – it’s amazing. I haven’t used outlining software before, but this is the whole package – corkboard for index notes/outline that you can move around – word processor – ability to quickly grab sections that need to be compared, or edited together – - HIGHLY recommend.

Next week’s gonna be just as Bad Ass – - you wait and see :)

Writers: how did July treat you and your WIP?

ROW80 ~ June 10 Checkin

My very first check-in!!!

Every Sunday, I get to check in to Round 3 of ROW80 and let the gang know how I did for my goals this week.

Goal: 1,500 words/day.

Actual: 800 – 1,000 words/day

I missed my goal, but I’m feeling good about the words I’m accruing. I think because of the outlining, my scenes are tighter, and have a very specific purpose. At the beginning of every scene I’m checking in on the outline, making sure I know the purpose and the emotional beat that’s driving the scene, so I feel like there will be less fall-out later when I’m editing. Maybe 800-1,000 this way is the equivalent to 1,500 the old way??

I’m almost tied into the existing sections of the book, but as I came across the first scene I’m noticing the characters are different enough I may end up re-writing the whole thing — I’m trying not to be daunted by that prospect….

Excited to hear how everyone else did…

Writer Wednesday ~ ROW80

Round of Words in 80 Days!

ROW logoThough this is the 3rd round of ROW80, I’m a newbie, and really excited about this challenge.

Since the re-write of this book has grabbed me by the throat and won’t let me go, I’m eager to take on every challenge to keep my butt in the chair. My ideal scenario would be the opportunity to run away for a few days – I seriously think if I had uninterrupted time, I could finish this book in 3 days.

And, I’m also uber grateful for the life I have, and that means writing around my adorable chubbies, amazing husband, and potty-training the new puppy.

My goal for ROW80 is 1,500 words/day. At the end of the 80 day challenge, that would by 120k words. My expectation is that 120,000 words will have this result:

CHARGED – complete. At least on version of edits complete.

Book 2 – outlined, first draft complete.

HACKER (short story) – complete.

Super excited to have some great writers to stand the front line with me against Resistance.
